The Book of Daniel
Sundays at 9:00am in Room 215
The book of Daniel has all the makings of a great story: memorable characters, cliff-hanging moments, and incredible visions. Yet we miss the point if we pay more attention to Daniel’s story than to Daniel’s God. In this study, we will see how this fascinating biblical book ultimately points to the sovereign Lord of history, who rules over all earthly kingdoms and whose plans cannot be thwarted.
Essential Christian Doctrine
Sundays at 9:00am in Room 205
Doctrine is what a person believes to be true and is the greatest influence on every person’s life concerning how they live. There are many doctrines taught in Scripture, and some are more important than others. Doctrines that teach salvation and define orthodox Christian faith are known as essentialal Christian doctrine. These essential Christian doctrines uphold the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Savior Jesus Christ was crucified because of His doctrine…what He believed and taught to be true. If doctrine was so important to Jesus, then doctrine should also be important to His disciples. We will be exploring the basis for Christian doctrine in the first half of the quarter and look deeply into River Oaks Doctrinal Statement in the second half.
Street Smarts: Using Questions to Answer Christianity's Toughest Challenges
Sundays at 11:00am in Room 200
Street Smarts, by Greg Koukl helps Christians better engage in productive conversations with those who challenge their convictions on a variety of issues. A follow-up to Koukl’s best-selling Tactics, this book focuses on revealing fundamental flaws in common, current challenges to Christian beliefs and values. It then provides individual strategies to expose and engage those shortcomings by offering model questions and sample dialogues to help guide believers in genial, yet persuasive, conversations about issues like: relativism, the trustworthiness of Scripture, the claims of the Gospel, abortion, marriage, sex, and gender.
